Egan Gardens sold, to close at the end of the year

Retail nursery and greenhouse Egan Gardens in Salem, Oregon, and will be closing at the end of the year. Longtime owner Ellen Egan has sold the business to new owners who will reopen it under a new name next year.

“After 41 years I am ready to retire and get some much-needed rest,” she said.  “I’m looking forward to doing all the things that I can’t do now. Of course, make the house and the yard I’m moving into mine, get back into drawing and painting and learn some new things. I want to be able enjoy doing things at a slower pace. Plus I’m not going to miss having to get up in the middle of the night to start up a power generator in an emergency power outage.”

The nursery is being purchased by John and Kylee Pedersen, who will carry the business on as Pedersens Nursery. “They’re going to do a good job,” Egan said. “I’m very happy to be selling to them, local nursery people.”

“They’ll be doing their own choice of plants and seasons, and it won’t be quite like we’ve done it at Egan’s,” she said.

“The Pedersens are already accomplished growers of hanging baskets, and they’ve been working out of the greenhouses at Willow Lake, where Kylee is part of the family,” she said.

Egan said anyone with gift certificates or gift cards should come and use them before Egan Gardens closes. Egan Gardens is currently hosting closing sale that will continue through October 15. The nursery is located north of Salem and Keizer at 9804 River Road N.E., Salem, Oregon, and can be reached at 503-393-2131.
