Al’s Garden & Home recommendations by Jennifer Harmon.

  • Burgon & Ball gardening gloves and kneelers: Stylish and comfortable, the gloves feature padded palms and fingers for comfort and a gathered wrist to keep out debris. The kneeler is padded with memory foam and saves your knees from rocks and gravel.
  • Lavender: Keeps giving year after year and contributes to a beautiful and pollinator-friendly garden as well as décor for your home as cut flowers or dried to use in arrangements or scent bags.
  • Orchids: With a wide range of sizes, flower shapes and colors, these plants add a long-lasting touch of tropical beauty to any home.
  • Hanging baskets: Add a burst of cascading color to your front porch that will last all season long.
  • Wine: What could be better to enjoy in your garden than sharing a bottle of wine after a day of digging, weeding and planting.

Portland Nursery recommendations by Sara Ori.

  • Paeonia ‘Coral Charm’ or ‘Coral Sunset.’ While all peonies make a great gift these make for excellent and classic cut floral arrangements.
  • Gardenia jasminoides ‘Frostproof’ are my go-to Mother’s Day gift as they are blooming and deliciously fragrant during Mother’s Day. They are perfect for planting around a backyard patio or under a window where their scent can be enjoyed.
  • Any Lupine from the Westcountry Series would make a beautiful gift. Their vertical nature adds showstopping dimension to any garden as well as attracting hummingbirds and butterflies.
  • If you’re looking for a larger gift, a Cornus kousa ‘Venus’ is a spectacular tree. It’s a small but fast-growing tree that thrives in the Pacific Northwest. Its overall shape and long-lasting blooms make it a Portland Nursery favorite.
  • Geum ‘Totally Tangerine’ is a sweet and often overlooked favorite. The pop of orange and delicate stems are a delightful addition to any garden.
