What to do in the garden in September

Harvest time is coming! The Oregon State University Extension Service  September garden calendar, has all the specifics for what to do and when.

Maintenance, cleanup, harvesting, planting, propagation, pest management, even indoor gardening — it’s all covered.

And yes, there are still a few things you can plant — yes, even in September, and no, not just cover crops. Portland Nursery’s helpful Veggie Calendar (PDF) will explain your options. You can pick up the seeds and starts you need from many of our local garden centers. It is, of course, a good time for certain bulbs, as well. Check your local garden center for the bulbs and the advice you will need.
