Gardening can be serious business, or at least we can take it seriously. I’m of a mind that we should also inject humor in the garden. After all, it is a living place and a place to live in. That’s why I have half chewed plastic pots and sticks scattered about (Barney, my adorable golden retriever, loves to play with them and his joy brings me great joy). It’s also why I have two very large Canada goose decoys tucked under a large viburnum: it’s unexpected and I hope it brings a smile to garden visitors.
And that’s why I wanted to share the photo of yellow ducks bobbing in a bubbler fountain found at Hughes Water Gardens near Wilsonville. The ducks wouldn’t last long in my fountain (Barney would snatch them up pretty quickly), nor am I a graduate of the University of Oregon (it would be hard for me to float my alma mater’s wildcat mascot), but what a fun idea!
And while at Hughes Water Gardens, the water lilies were blooming, including the fragrant tropical ones. Stop by for a peek. The garden center has also added a small gauge railroad for the kids to enjoy.
