Farmington Gardens has fall events for the entire family

The activities lineup this fall at Farmington Gardens in Beaverton has something for the kids in the family as well as parents.

Kids can learn to create a beautiful, twinkling lantern using colorful autumn leaves collected from around the nursery. Take a walk to find the perfect leaves, then glue them on a jar to add color, add lights and a handle and the lantern is complete. Take the lantern home to enjoy an evening nature walk or a cozy night inside. For ages 6 and up. 10–11 a.m. Saturday, September 21. Cost is $10. Purchase tickets

What could be a more fun Halloween activity for kids than to make a pumpkin volcano? Kids can learn to make a pumpkin volcano and watch the “lava” flow. Enjoy the scenery and get a chance to let your inner artist out at an En Plein Air Painting workshop. Plein air painting is the practice of painting a finished picture outdoors with the subject in full view. The term comes from the French phrase “en plain air,” which means “in the open air.” Plein air artists try to capture the essence of a landscape or subject by incorporating natural light, color, and movement into their work. Put your green thumb to work and create a pumpkin succulent planter. Pick the perfect pumpkin then choose dried flowers, moss, and succulents to adorn it.
