Lovers of the Japanese art form of Ikebana can learn more about it at an Ikebana demonstration hosted by The Portland Japanese Garden. Ikebana, the Japanese art of flower arranging, has been translated as “living flowers” or “giving life to flowers.” The demonstration will be presented by Nana Bellerud from the Sogetsu School of Ikebana from 1:15-2:15 p.m. October 15 at the Jordan Schnitzer Japanese Arts Learning center at the garden. The demonstration is free with the price of garden admission.

You'll start by selecting your perfect pumpkin, then instructor and pumpkin carving enthusiast, Amelia Emery, will help you find inspiration to create your own spooktacular design. You’ll receive friendly guidance and advice on mastering basic carving techniques. Just in time for the Halloween season! Come ready to have a hauntingly good time, no prior experience required – children under 13 must be accompanied by an adult.
