Get crafty with fall classes at garden centers

Summer is gone, and fall is here and so are fall classes at area garden centers that will keep your creative juices and green thumbs going.

Here’s a selection:

Coiled Pine Needle Basketry, 9:30 a.m.–12:30 p.m., Saturday, October 3, Portland Nursery, 9000 S.E. Division St. Learn the foundations of coiled pine needle basketry with Elder Celeste “CeCe” Whitewolf. Participants will learn how a coiled basket is started and shaped, and the stitching techniques used to build a small basket. This hands-on workshop is appropriate for beginning weavers. Participants will leave with a small, coiled piece, foundational skills they can continue practicing, and a deeper appreciation for the time, patience, and relationships held within natural-fiber weaving. Cost: $100 per person includes materials and instruction fees. Register

Decoupage Fall Ceramic Tile Coasters, 10:30 a.m.–noon, October 10, Blooming Junction, 35105 N.W. Zion Church Road, Cornelius. In this hands-on class, you’ll create four beautiful fall-themed ceramic tile coasters, using seasonal designs and decoupage techniques. Teresa Bral from Living Paper Design will guide you step-by-step, making this class perfect for beginners and experienced crafters alike. Cost: $25. Register

You’re Gourdgeous Pumpkin Decorating Workshop, 10–11:30 a.m. and 1–2:30 p.m. October 10, Al’s Garden & Home of Sherwood and Woodburn; 10–11:30 a.m. and 1–2:30 p.m. October 17, Al’s Garden & Home of Wilsonville and Gresham. Kick off the season with a little creativity. Enjoy decorating your very own pumpkin with all the supplies and inspiration you need to create a fall favorite you’ll be proud to display. Cost is $40. Terrorium Workshop, 10–11 a.m., October 24, all Al’s Garden & Home locations. Join Al’s the Saturday before Halloween to create your very own “terrorium,” a spooky little illuminated garden that’s equal parts creepy and cute. Your $50 workshop includes a lighted terrarium with batteries, soil, two plants and a collection of spooky accoutrements to help you create your own haunted little world.
