Vancouver Pollinator Festival, Saturday June 20, 9 a.m.–3 p.m. — Pollinators are essential to our ecosystems — and they need our help! This festival is your chance to learn, celebrate, and take action to protect these amazing creatures while having fun with your community. Sharing the Flowers: How Garden Design Affects Bees and Their Behavior, Saturday, June 20, 10 a.m.–11:30 a.m. — In this talk, participants will explore how different plants attract different types of bees and how garden design influences their behavior. You’ll learn how factors like plant diversity and bloom timing shape which pollinators visit your garden, and how strategies such as using “magnet plants” like Lavandula may help reduce competition from social bees. Al’s Garden & Home Kids’ Club: Buzz-Worthy Planter, Saturday June 20 and June 27 — Celebrate Pollinator Month with a hands-on planting project designed just for kids! In this month’s Kids Club workshop, children will plant a colorful container filled with pollinator-friendly annuals that help attract bees, butterflies, hummingbirds, and other beneficial visitors to the garden. It’s a fun, creative way to learn about pollinators while making something beautiful to take home and enjoy all summer long.
