Earth Day is just around the corner and there are plenty of activities around the state to help celebrate Mother Earth. Activities range from mulching and planting to simply attending a garden or park.
Here are just a few:
- Earth Day at the Oregon Garden includes activities for the whole family, educational exhibits, and admission is free; April 20, 10 a.m.-4 p.m., 879 Main St., Silverton, Oregon.
- Mulch newly planted trees at Steigerwald Lake National Wildlife Refuge to help them survive the hot summers by suppressing weeds and retaining moisture; April 20, 9 a.m. to noon, 35001 Lewis and Clark Highway, Washougal, Washington. All ages welcome. Click here to pre-register.
- Join Willamette Resources and Educational Network and the Bureau of Land Management and plant native pollinator plants and clean up trash at Turtle Swale in Eugene, April 20 from 10 a.m.-noon, 790 Royal Ave., Eugene, Oregon. No experience is required and all tools will be provided. Light refreshments provided. Event is at Turtle Swale but parking will be provided at Checkermallow Access site.
- Join farmer Liz and crew at Starker Arts Education Garden in Corvallis for a work party, April 20 from 10 a.m.-noon, 4485 S.W. Country Club Drive, Corvallis, Oregon. SAGE grows 5000-10,000 lbs of food annually for people in need in the community.
- Join Tualatin Riverkeepers for the Rood Bridge Park Earth Day Restoration Project and help remove invasives such as ivy, holly and blackberry throughout the natural areas at Rood Bridge Park, April 20 from 9 a.m. to noon, 4000 Southeast Rood Bridge Road, Hillsboro, Oregon. Click here to sign up.

- Join Northwest Trail Alliance for Earth Day with NWTA and help pick up trash along Rocky Point Road in Scappoose, April 21 from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., meet at Rocky Point Central Trailhead, wear bright clothes and bring gloves and sturdy shoes. Garbage bags provided.
