DESCRIPTION:Clackamas Soil and Water Conservation District is hosting 2025 Small Farm School 8 a.m.–3 p.m. Wednesday\, September 10 at Clackamas Community College\, 19600 Molalla Ave. in Oregon City. \nSmall Farm School is an annual full-day event with hands-on workshops and classroom sessions. Both beginning and experienced small-scale farmers will find classes to fit their needs.  The classes cover topics ranging from equipment use to soil health\, crop and livestock management\, and more. The event is followed by a farmer social at a location to be announced. \nCourse offerings change each year\, so if you have attended in the past\, join them again. There is always something new to learn. Classes are size-limited and will close when full. Early registration is highly recommended to ensure the best class selection. \nRegistration fees are on a sliding scale: For early registration\, July 30–August 28\, sliding scale will be between $30 and $100. Join Andrew Robson for a demonstration of Bonsai at the Cathy Rudd Cultural Corner in the Jordan Schnitzer Japanese Arts Learning Center. Bonsai\, literally translated as “tree-in-a-tray\,” is the art and science of miniature trees. Robson is a deciduous artist in the American bonsai community. He completed a 3-year apprenticeship with Michael Hagedorn\, after graduating from Yale University. Robson is the President of the Bonsai Society of Portland\, the largest bonsai club in the United States. Free with admission to garden. \nPortland Japanese Garden is located in Washington Park at 611 S.W. Kingston Ave. and is open 10 a.m.–5:30 p.m. Wednesdays–Mondays. This will be primarily a walking tour so attendees are encouraged to park at Ralston Park\, where there will be maps available with a recommended walking guide. People can take any route they want\, and they can also drive to these gardens if they like. Along with the map\, there will be signage for all gardens. This year there are 7 gardens\, plus 2 bonus gardens (the two bonus gardens are not within walking distance). The tour starts at Ralston Park Historical Rose Garden\, 925 S. Park St. in Lebanon. Former garden writer for The Oregonian\, Kym Pokorny will give a demonstration on putting together a drip irrigation system for containers. Then in mid-afternoon\, Linda Beutler\, curator of the Rogerson Clematis Garden\, will give a demonstration on making bamboo structures for clematis in containers.
