DESCRIPTION:Enjoy a unique combination of nature and culture at O-Tsukimi or the Moonviewing Festival at the Portland Japanese Garden from 5:30–8 p.m. Friday and Saturday\, September 25 and 26\, and 6–8:30 p.m. Sunday\, September 27. \nMoonviewing guests can start the evening with a light vegetarian meal catered by Obon Shokudo\, accompanied by a koto or shamisen performance in the Atsuhiko and Ina Goodwin Tateuchi Foundation Courtyard. Joto Sake and Japanese lager by Pfriem Family Brewers will also be served. \nStroll the lantern-lit garden. Along with O-Bon (The Spirit Festival)\, this is one of only two events each year in which the stone lanterns are illuminated. Relax on the Mount Hood Overlook and anticipate the moonrise with a cup of Jasmine Pearl Tea and an opportunity to compose haiku as shakuhachi (bamboo flute) music wafts through the air. \nView a candle-lit tea ceremony in the Kashintei Tea House and enjoy a display of ikebana (traditional Japanese floral displays). \nCost is $75 for non-members\, $60 for members. DESCRIPTION:Run\, walk or crawl…or do them all!! Fight for your Life 5K was created in remembrance of Emily Pohlschneider-Edwards. The race at 10:30 a.m. on September 27 is hosted at Emily’s family farm\, French Prairie Gardens\, where she grew up and helped work the fields. \nThis flat course will be located on dirt roads winding through the farmland. It is a family-friendly event. \nReceive SkyFest Kite Festival admission for yourself\, along with your race registration to attend all of the family fun activities and visit the Farm Bar and Brew. All race proceeds will go towards the Em’s Fight Foundation to help local women fighting cancer. \nAdvance registration is $33 and day-of registration is $35 per person and includes race T-shirt\, race packet\, one drink ticket for brew or hard cider (Must be 21+ for beer) or non-alcoholic beverages\, and receive SkyFest Kite Admission for the race attendee. \nPlease note that dogs will not be allowed at the race or on the property due to new insurance requirements. \nEm’s Fight foundation\, a 501 (c)(3) non profit organization\, was formed by the Pohlschneider Family in Emily Pohlschneider-Edwards memory in 2012 after Emily’s passing in October of 2011. Since the foundation was formed\, it has helped more 23 families with their cancer fight in the local community. Division St. Learn the foundations of coiled pine needle basketry with Elder Celeste “CeCe” Whitewolf. Participants will learn how a coiled basket is started and shaped\, and the stitching techniques used to build a small basket. This hands-on workshop is appropriate for beginning weavers. Participants will leave with a small\, coiled piece\, foundational skills they can continue practicing\, and a deeper appreciation for the time\, patience\, and relationships held within natural-fiber weaving.
