DESCRIPTION:Barbara Fealy (1903–2000) was a noted American Landscape architect\, known for her remarkable works that centered around Portland\, Oregon and the broader Pacific Northwest. \nJoin the Lord & Schryver Conservancy for “Barbara Fealy and 20th Century Landscape Architecture\,” presented by Mark R. Eischeid\, associate professor of landscape architecture at the University of Oregon. The presentation is Sunday\, November 2\, with a social time from 2–3 p.m. with light refreshments\, followed by a lecture and Q&A from 3–4 p.m. at the Willamette Heritage Center Dye House\, 1313 Mill St. N.E. in Salem. \nIn 1985\, Fealy was elected a fellow of the American Society of Landscape Architects\, making her the first woman member in Oregon. Her work has been recognized in several ways\, including many which have been listed on the National Register of Historic Places. DESCRIPTION:Experience one of Portland Japanese Garden’s most coveted cultural evenings: O-Tsukimi\, the Moonviewing Festival\, Sunday–Tuesday\, October 5–7. \nStroll through lantern-lit paths\, gather with tea in hand to await the moonrise\, compose haiku\, and savor a bento-style dinner provided by Obon Shokudo as the sounds of traditional Japanese instruments drift through the air. \nMoonviewing\, or O-Tsukimi in Japanese\, is the practice of gazing at the full moon and enjoying its sacred beauty. Since 1990\, Portland Japanese Garden has scheduled this beloved annual event to coincide with the harvest moon\, which occurs anytime from September to early October. There is no better place in Portland to share the romance and mystery of this special custom than from the eastern overlook of the Portland Japanese Garden Pavilion with its views of the city skyline and Mount Hood. \nThe Moonviewing Festival is 5–7:30 p.m. (moonrise at 6:02 p.m.) Sunday\, October 5; 5:30–8 p.m. (harvest moon moonrise at 6:22 p.m.) Monday\, October 6; and 5:30–8 p.m. (moonrise at 6:44 p.m.) Tuesday\, October 7. \nThe event will take place rain or shine. Central St. \nSmith worked at Sissinghurst Castle Garden as a senior gardener for five years in the early 1990s and returned in May 2013 as head gardener\, according to the HPSO. Since then\, he has been on a mission to revitalize the garden\, bringing about a garden more authentic to the vision of Vita Sackville-West\, the poet and writer who began transforming Sissinghurst Castle in the 1930s with her diplomat and author husband\, Harold Nicolson. \nThe famous White Garden has luminous all-white blooms and sultry evening scents and the Orchard has fruit trees rising from naturalistic plantings of spring bulbs and wildflowers.
