This session will explore targeted approaches to pest control. You will learn to prevent problems\, observe plant performance\, and work with the garden ecosystem. \nYou will explore: \n\nVegetable garden design\, soil health\, plant placement\, and crop rotation.\nHelpful\, beneficial insects and how to keep them in your garden.\nLife cycles of both pests and beneficial critters to inform decision-making.\nPhysical barriers that protect crops from pests.\n\nSpeaker Priscilla Robinson is an Oregon State University Extension Master Gardener who teaches for the award-winning 10-Minute University™ Program. She gained extensive experience gardening in raised beds after downsizing to a townhouse. Priscilla gardens in a community garden plot and actively participates in “Grow an Extra Row\,” a program of the Clackamas County Master Gardener Association. Team members annually grow and donate several thousand pounds of fresh produce to food banks. \nRegister \n \nPlant Problems Caused by Weather and What People Do\, April 22 — Solving plant problems becomes simpler when you know how to accurately identify the cause. This session aims to enhance your ability to do that. \nScientific research indicates that 70– 90% of garden problems are not caused by pests or diseases. They are caused by non-living factors\, such as too much or too little water\, extreme temperatures\, mechanical damage\, too much or too little light\, a nutrient deficiency\, or toxicity. \nThis session will cover problems caused by non-living factors\, and will offer remedies to help fix the majority of plant problems. \nSpeaker Justin Dune is a retired architect and educator\, an Oregon State University Extension Master Gardener\, and a member of the 10-Minute University™ team. Justin gardens on a steep lot\, growing ornamental plants\, fruits\, berries and vegetables. \nRegister \n \nDIY Composting\, April 29 — Reduce your garden’s reliance on manufactured fertilizers while reusing yard waste and improving soil health.
